About this Service
Daglish is a small suburb next to Subiaco, in the inner west area where Nuno does a lot of work. It is about 35 minutes from our Clarkson base outside peak hour. With only around 1,500 residents, Daglish is one of the smallest suburbs we cover, but its homes need more care than most.
What we see in Daglish homes
Daglish is small and very consistent. The train station opened in 1924, the land was subdivided from 1925, and Workers' Home Board houses were built from 1933. It is described as the only remaining example of the garden suburb movement in Western Australia.
That means almost every home here is 90 years old or close to it. Unless it has been rewired, the house may still have old cable, ceramic fuses and circuits without safety switch protection.
Because the character of these homes is the reason people buy them, we plan work so it disturbs as little as possible. Cable is run through roof spaces and existing cavities where we can, and fittings are chosen to suit the house.
Before a sale or lease, WA requires at least two safety switches covering all power and lighting circuits, so a switchboard upgrade is often the first job for a Daglish home changing hands.
If you are planning a renovation, check the wiring early. Replacing old cable while ceilings and walls are open costs far less than doing it after the work is finished. Daglish train station sits inside the suburb, and the streets around it were laid out when the land was subdivided in the 1920s.
