EV charger installation is one of the fastest growing electrical jobs in Perth as more homeowners switch to electric vehicles. A proper installation involves assessing existing switchboard capacity, running a dedicated circuit, mounting the charger correctly, and testing for compliance before it's signed off. WA law requires a licensed electrician to complete EV charger installation.

EV charger installation in Perth homes

A wall charger is much faster than charging from a normal power point, but it needs its own circuit and a switchboard that can carry the extra load. That is why the first step is always a check of your board and supply.

What we check first

• Whether there is space on the switchboard for a new circuit and safety switch
• Whether your supply can carry the charger on top of air con, cooking and hot water
• The cable route from the board to where you park
• Whether you have single phase or three phase power

Western Power allows a 7 kW single phase charger on a standard connection. Larger chargers may need an upgraded connection, and installers must not exceed the capacity of your supply. If you are still choosing a car or charger, talk to us first so you pick one that suits the house.

Where you park matters too. A charger mounted close to the switchboard means a shorter cable run and a lower price, while a carport at the far end of a block needs a longer, heavier cable. We show you the options and the cost difference at the quote so you can decide.

Once it is installed, we show you which circuit and safety switch on the board belong to the charger, so you know what to check if it ever trips.

Licensed installation in WA

In WA, all electrical installing work has to be done by a licensed electrician. We install the circuit and charger, test it, and give you an Electrical Safety Certificate for the work.

You get a fixed price before we start. If your board needs an upgrade first, we tell you at the quote, not on the day.
